Hours: Full–time, Permanent (9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday)
The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems and components, producing technical documentation, and ensuring that all designs meet the required safety and regulatory standards. You will work closely with our CAD team and other engineering disciplines to deliver robust and efficient electrical designs from concept to completion. This role will suit someone with a strong technical background and excellent attention to detail who enjoys both design work and collaboration with multi–disciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Create detailed electrical schematics, layouts, and prototypes for systems such as LV circuits, power distribution, emergency lighting, CMS route drawings, and asset fixing details. Ensure all designs meet current electrical regulations, industry standards, and project specifications. Prepare technical documentation, drawings, user manuals, and maintain up–to–date design records.
- Analysis & Testing: Perform calculations, simulations, and technical evaluations to verify the performance and reliability of new and modified designs. Conduct and assess tests for completed systems. Work with cross–functional teams, including mechanical, civil, and communication system engineers, to integrate electrical components into larger construction or infrastructure projects.
- Technical Support: Provide site surveys, inspections, and ongoing technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including commissioning and handover. Assist with managing design timelines, coordinating with clients and internal teams, and contributing to the preparation of tender documentation.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 10 years experience in electrical design engineering.
- Proficiency with design and calculation software such as Trimble and Dialux.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, design principles, and current UK electrical codes and regulations.
- Ability to read, interpret, and produce detailed technical drawings and schematics.
- Computer–literate, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical, analytical mindset.
