Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) owns ferries, ports and harbours and infrastructure necessary for vital ferry services serving the West Coast of Scotland and the Clyde Estuary and the Northern Isles. We aim to provide efficient, cost effective and safe vessels, harbours and associated port infrastructure for operators, communities and users in and around Scotland.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Trainee Management Accountant is an exciting role within our dynamic Finance Team. This role will be supported with training, both formal and in-house and the post holder will be required to study towards and sit the exams of a professional accounting body.

Primary tasks and responsibilities are:

  • Support the Finance Manager and the Management Accountant by assisting in the preparation of:
    • Monthly management accounts
    • Balance sheet reconciliations
    • Accruals and prepayments
    • Processing of fixed assets, WIP and depreciation
    • Budgets
    • Annual audit and preparation of financial statements

The post holder will be educated to degree level or equivalent and will be actively working towards or about to embark on studying for their professional qualification. Prior experience of working in a busy Finance Team setting is desirable but not essential. The post holder must be able to communicate well with others from multi-disciplinary backgrounds and be able to explain financial information clearly to non-financial people.

CMAL professionals include Marine Engineers and Naval Engineers, amongst others, who all contribute towards the continuing maintenance and improvement of the ferry network and the procurement and build of new ferries for the Scottish island communities. We expect the post holder to be as committed to this mission as the rest of our Team.

This post is predominantly based onsite to coincide with training requirements. Flexible arrangements will be considered on an individual basis with cognisance to business requirements.

Salary will be within Scottish Government pay band 6 and benefits include:
