At CalMac, we are building for the future. As part of our ambition to strengthen how we deliver change, we are creating an in‑house Business Analysis Centre of Excellence and we’re looking for an experienced, confident Business Analyst to play a key role in making that vision a reality. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Change & Programme Governance team, working at the heart of transformation across the organisation and supporting CalMac’s future growth plans.
The Role
As a Business Analyst, you will act as a key liaison between business areas, digital and delivery teams, translating complex needs into clear, practical solutions that enable successful change. You’ll work with subject matter experts across the organisation to:
- Investigate, analyse and document business requirements
- Design and model business processes and assess the impact of change
- Support the delivery of complex projects from early discovery through to implementation and BAU handover
This role requires a high degree of independence, resilience and pragmatism. You’ll be trusted to shape your own work, challenge thinking constructively and contribute positively to a strong, collaborative team culture.
Key Accountabilities
You will:
- Analyse and gather both functional and non‑functional business requirements
- Confidently facilitate workshops with stakeholders at all levels
- Define, document and validate end‑to‑end solutions using recognised analysis techniques and methodologies
- Work closely with IT, Change Boards, external suppliers and delivery teams to assess suitability and recommend solutions
- Support solution validation, user acceptance testing and implementation activity
- Create high quality documentation including process maps, business cases, user guides and impact assessments
- Support transition of delivered change into BAU teams
- Manage and review department owned processes in line with company standards
- Work flexibly to meet agreed budgets, milestones and delivery deadlines
Essential Criteria
To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate:
- Accredited BCS Diploma in Business Analysis
- A self‑sufficient and proactive working style, able to operate independently without waiting for direction
- Strong personal resilience and pragmatism, with the confidence to engage in constructive peer review and use feedback to strengthen both outcomes and team effectiveness
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
You will also bring:
- Relevant experience working in a Business Analyst role
- Proven experience delivering business change using a range of methodologies
- Strong analytical skills with a track record of translating business needs into operational requirements
- Excellent process mapping capability (BPM), with Visio knowledge highly desirable
- Experience conducting gap analysis, options analysis and business impact assessments
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders, suppliers and multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience supporting UAT, implementation and post‑delivery transition
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to prioritise effectively, manage deadlines and work under pressure
- A collaborative, open and solutions focused mindset
