Description
The Senior Geologist will support wellfield design, planning, and execution efforts to achieve Fervo Energy’s geothermal energy development goals. This position will play a key role in shaping the development strategy, evaluating investment opportunities, and optimizing reservoir performance across Fervo’s growing project portfolio. Responsibilities will include working with various geological, geochemical, and geophysical data sets to test and build conceptual and three-dimensional geologic models of geothermal reservoirs, planning and executing large-scale geothermal development drilling and completion campaigns, overseeing drilling and completion operations, and identifying near-field development and acquisition opportunities. Successful candidates will be able to engage in daily cross-functional communication across execution and technology teams while making real-time operations decisions.
Requirements
Responsibilities
- Prepare development plans, well paths, geologic prognoses, data collection programs (including open and cased hole logging, mudlogging, sample collection, and core), communication programs, and real-time and post-drill evaluations and presentations
- Manage vendor relationships, develop RFPs, facilitate proposal selection processes, and work closely with Fervo’s drilling operations to oversee key wellfield operations and services related to data acquisition activities
- Integrate geologic, geochemical, and geophysical data-sets to build and update geologic models across Fervo’s geothermal development portfolio
- Work across a cross-functional team of reservoir engineers, geophysicists, and drilling, completions, and production engineers to build and refine geologic and numerical reservoir models to optimize wellfields
- Work closely with geology, reservoir engineering, and land to plan wellfields and evaluate project economics
- Support Fervo’s well delivery process by writing and contributing to Statements of Requirements, Basis of Design reports, and After-Action Reviews
- Identify growth opportunities for Fervo’s development portfolio through nearfield development opportunities and acquisitions
- Oversee mudlogging, logging, and general wellsite/operations geology for Fervo’s development drilling programs
- Develop petrophysical and geomechanical models and evaluate subsurface state of stress to inform wellfield and completions design
- Perform offset well analysis to develop geologic prognoses, evaluate wellbore stability, and support D&C team to develop well plans
- Support preparation and execution of short- and long-term flow tests for resource confirmation and early-stage production testing and geologic interpretation for history matching efforts
- Assist with asset management, resource reserve estimates, and investment analysis/diligence. Report out and present technical findings to a broad non-technical audience, including preparing summaries for presentation outside Fervo
- Travel periodically to field sites (mostly in western U.S.) as required. During active drilling campaigns travel may increase up to 20-30%
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a geologist in the geothermal and/or oil & gas industries

- Previous experience analyzing petrophysical logs and with associated software (Geolog, TechLog, IP, WellCAD, or similar)
- Strong background in structural geology and/or structural and basin development and reconstruction
- Previous horizontal drilling experience
- Prior experience in geologic resource assessment and geologic mapping for conventional hydrothermal systems
- Experience with produced water and groundwater geochemistry
