We are looking to recruit a Residential Support Worker (RSW) to support children and young people with disabilities in our short breaks service. You will be working within Children and Young People’s Service, caring for young people with physical and behavioural difficulties. You will work as part of a dedicated team responsible for caring for children and providing them with positive life experiences and enabling them to achieve their personal best. There is an essential element of the role which will require the worker to support, work closely with, and collaborate with their families.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to have fun and provide learning opportunities through play, activities both on and off site, household tasks, etc.
  • Ability to care and support children and families to build resilience and provide the best outcomes for the child.
  • Ability to meet the diverse needs of our children, including personal care and managing children with limited communication.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and discipline to follow advice and guidance set out by the home.
  • Remain calm in challenging and crisis situations, employing a solution‑focused approach to ensure safe and best practices are employed.
  • Role model positive behaviours and choices for young people to understand and learn.
  • Provide high‑quality care for all service users, promoting best practice in achieving agreed goals and ambitions set out by the home.
  • Demonstrate energy, enthusiasm, motivation and adaptability to work to a high standard and contribute to a dynamic service.
  • Provide emotional warmth, resilience and build positive, trusting and empathetic relationships with children and their families.
  • Advocate for young people and families and represent the home and organisation professionally to high standards.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, including IT skills to compile and maintain children’s and young people’s records, and participate in all aspects of administration.
  • Be flexible and available to cover shifts, including evenings and weekends.
