We are seeking a Rehabilitation Officer (ROVI) for people with a visual impairment to join a small dedicated Sensory Team alongside another Rehabilitation Officer, Coordinator for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and a Communicator Guide.

The Sensory Team is part of the Calderdale Adult Social Care Front Door Offer, as part of Community Prevention and Early Intervention, and sits within the Adults Services and Wellbeing Early Intervention and Prevention Directorate.

We are looking for candidates who can work with visually impaired individuals in a person‑centred way. Candidates must be committed to upholding Human Rights along with the Principles of The Care Act 2014, have a positive attitude, and be enthusiastic and innovative in their approach to work. Excellent communication skills and the ability to demonstrate good practice are a must.

The Rehabilitation Officer role includes holding a caseload of people and undertaking proportionate strengths‑based assessments, designing programmes of rehabilitation for those identified as being in need of support due to the impact of their visual impairment on daily life, and empowering vulnerable adults to make choices and decisions about their lives. The right candidate will ensure that individuals remain at the heart of their work, promote independence, and maintain autonomy and control.

Responsibilities:

  • Hold and manage a caseload of visually impaired adults.
  • Conduct proportionate strengths‑based assessments.
  • Design and implement tailored rehabilitation programmes.
  • Write reports and maintain accurate IT records.
  • Contribute to the development of the Directorate and share information with health colleagues and voluntary agencies.
  • Receive regular 1‑to‑1 supervision and be supported to develop skills through annual appraisal and frequent training.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Rehabilitation Specialist qualification and registration with RWPN.
  • Driving licence and access to a car for business use.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  • DBS check required for posts exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
  • Experience in person‑centred work with visually impaired adults is essential.

Employees of the Council enjoy a comprehensive reward and benefits package, which includes generous terms and conditions of employment and access to a wide range of retail discounts and lifestyle savings.

Closing Date: 15th January 2026
Interview Date: 23rd January 2026
We may utilise digital interview methods.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
