The Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service provides Independent Visitor Volunteers to children who are looked after and care leavers in Calderdale.
We are recruiting to the new post of Independent Visitor and Volunteer Coordinator.
The role is to recruit, train and support volunteers to fulfil the statutory role of Independent Visitor for children, ensuring they receive the right support at the right time.
Core responsibilities include leading safe recruitment, assessment, training and ongoing support of independent visitors and other volunteers in line with best practice and statutory guidance.
You will facilitate groups and training sessions, foster nurturing long‑term supportive relationships with the young people they befriended, and play a key role in developing and improving the service.
Requirements: Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths or equivalent demonstrable experience; an A level 3 or above qualification in a relevant subject such as Childcare, Youth Work, Health and Social Care; a UK Driving Licence; strong knowledge of children’s safeguarding practices and safe recruitment; excellent communication skills with children, young people and other stakeholders; independent working ability and the capacity to contribute to local practice and policy.
We require all applicants to hold a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service if they are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
The post is part of a supportive team delivering the Children’s Rights and Advocacy service within an Ofsted‑graded ‘Good’ local authority, with regular supervision and guidance to develop this new role.
