We are currently recruiting for a creative and resourceful Social Worker to work with us in the Gateway Duty Team, which is part of the Adult Services and Wellbeing Directorate at Calderdale Council. The team provides guidance and assistance to people who may or may not meet the Care Act eligibility but who nevertheless require some support to prevent, reduce or delay the need for statutory services. We work in partnership with a variety of community‑based organisations, Health and Public Health partners, to identify and direct people to appropriate place‑based services to enable them to live a fulfilled life.

The Duty Social Worker position is a valued and vital role that specialises in working with adults who have additional requirements to live their largest life. The team is fast‑paced and requires the ability to apply professional curiosity and crisis intervention. We challenge misconceptions and inequalities within our role to ensure we respect the person’s voice and wishes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:- Ensure that individuals remain at the heart of their work and empower adults to make choices and to maintain their own autonomy wherever possible.
- Ensure that the needs of family members, carers, groups and providers of care are understood and work with them towards ensuring that adults receive the appropriate support (which is the least restrictive option) whilst recognising the need for intervention at times.
- Make decisions that are in accordance with relevant policy guidance to ensure that people are supported appropriately.
- Experienced Social Workers will deploy the correct use of legislation aimed at maintaining the independence of adults and assist them in maximising their own abilities and networks of support.
- Level 2 Social Worker with experience in fast‑paced and responsive intervention.
- Strong understanding of the Care Act, relevant legislation and policy guidance.
- Experience in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
