Role Overview
This role is part of Calderdale’s ambition to ensure that Children, Young People and Families receive the right support at the right time. It sits within Early Intervention and Targeted Support, offering a range of specialist services to young people aged 0‑25 and their families who need additional support.
Calderdale Young Carers Service works with children and young people aged 8‑17 who care for someone they live with. The service aims to reduce the impact of the caring role and increase the resilience of the child or young person through a range of targeted interventions and respite activities.
The Young Carers Casual Support Worker will support the delivery of respite activity sessions for young carers to promote their social, emotional and recreational development.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport young carers from their homes across Calderdale to a central meeting point.
- Support the delivery of each respite activity session.
- Transport the young carers home again after the session.
- Ensure all children and young people are safe and supported during transport and activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Passion for working with children and young people and the ability to engage and communicate with both children/young people and their families.
- Knowledge of the issues affecting young carers (or willingness to undertake training).
- Commitment to improving outcomes for young carers by providing quality provision of play opportunities and activities suitable to the age and needs of the young carer.
- Access to a car for work purposes and ability to obtain insurance for business use.
- Flexible working mainly evening and weekend work, with additional opportunity for daytime work during school holidays.
