Job overview: An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced and motivated registered nurses to join our Acute Oncology and Helpline Team as a Sister/Charge Nurse. This is a rewarding leadership role that combines clinical expertise, specialist cancer nursing practice, and operational management responsibilities. The successful candidate will provide visible clinical and managerial leadership, supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job: The post holder will provide professional, clinical and operational leadership within the Oncology and Haematology service, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient-centred care. They will lead and support the nursing team, coordinate patient care, undertake Acute Oncology triage and assessment, and act as Clinical Nurse Specialist for patients with Cancer of Unknown Primary and Malignancy of Unknown Origin. The role also includes responsibility for staff development, service improvement, clinical audit and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and experience are maintained.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities: You must have significant experience in caring for patients with cancer, be competent in cannulation, venepuncture, care of central venous access devices and administration of IV medications.
- QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING: First level Nursing Registration on NMC register; Evidence of own post basic education to meet the requirements of the service and nurse registration; Post registration education in relevant specialty or working towards; Other Post Basic Qualification or working towards.
- COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS: Knowledge of future provision of services; Competent in venepuncture, phlebotomy, IV medication administration and care of central venous access devices; Ability to recognise and manage oncological emergencies; Accreditation in the administration of cytotoxic medications; Positive role model to all members of the team; A commitment to providing exceptional levels of patient care in a professional and compassionate manner.
- KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE: Significant experience as a band 5 registered nurse within a hospital setting; Competent in the delivery of SACT; Leadership and clinical supervision skills; Responsible for own post basic education to meet the requirements of the service and PREP; Recruitment and selection course attendance or willingness to work towards; Significant experience within the field of oncology/haematology and anti-cancer treatment; Experience of clinical audit and service improvement; Leadership course or willingness to work towards; UKONS level 6.
