We are looking for an enthusiastic speech and language therapist to join our Adult Inpatient Speech & Language Therapy Team. You will join our friendly and supportive team serving in-patients at Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. We provide a service to a range of wards including:

  1. Medical assessment & short stay units
  2. Medical elderly wards
  3. Respiratory wards
  4. Intensive care units
  5. Acute stroke and stroke rehabilitation units

There will also be opportunities to work with other speech and language therapists in our head and neck, voice, and adult community services. We run weekly video fluoroscopy clinics which you will have the opportunity to observe.

You will be supported with regular clinical supervision and contact with team members, including a professional lead for Speech and Language Therapy. You will have access to mandatory and in-service training and be supported to develop dysphagia competencies.

Main duties of the job

  1. To work within the Speech & Language Therapy service, providing effective clinical interventions within the specialty of adult acquired disorders in line with current evidence base.
  2. Work autonomously within Trust policies and professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive up-to-date records.
  3. To carry out assessment and treatment of patients with communication and swallowing problems on hospital wards.
  4. Determine a clinical diagnosis, develop, deliver, implement, evaluate, and modify individualised treatment programmes and/or provide advice, ensuring appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.
  5. Participate in the education and training of Speech and Language Therapists and healthcare, social services, and education staff, including medical staff.
  6. Support the Clinical Lead in the day-to-day running of the Inpatient Speech and Language Service.
  7. Support and advise within the wider MDT.
