Caldbeck Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic and capable Healthcare Assistant to join our clinical team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in healthcare who is committed to delivering high‑quality patient care in a supportive and well‑established GP practice.
About the Role
Working closely with our Practice Nurses and following practice protocols, you will contribute to a wide range of clinical services. The job description notes that the HCA will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. Your duties will include:
- Venepuncture
- Blood pressure recording, including 24‑hour ABPM
- Wound care and dry dressings
- Foot checks
- Administering flu, pneumo, shingles and B12 injections
- ECG recording and 24‑hour monitor fitting
- INR checks
- Removal of clips/sutures
- Chaperoning
- Health promotion (diet, exercise, weight management)
- Vaccine/cold chain monitoring
- Routine observations (height, weight, BP, urinalysis)
You will also work toward additional competencies such as smoking cessation support, assisting with minor operations, and foot/leg care.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong written English and ability to learn medical terminology
- Ability to work unsupervised and prioritise workload
- Experience in healthcare, ideally within the NHS
- Knowledge of GP clinical systems (Emis Web desirable)
- Understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Ability to use judgement, common sense, and local knowledge when supporting patients

We provide a full induction programme and ongoing training under the supervision of a lead Practice Nurse.
