This long-established and highly respected specialist contractor operating within the groundworks and concrete frame sector, with a strong reputation for delivering complex projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards, is now seeking an experienced SHEQ Director to join their senior leadership team.
This is a pivotal leadership role with full responsibility for driving and embedding excellence across Safety, Health, Environment, Quality, and Training throughout the business.
The Role
As SHEQ Director, you will provide strategic direction and operational leadership for all SHEQ and training functions, ensuring best-in-class standards across multiple sites and projects. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will play a key role in shaping company policy, influencing culture, and supporting sustainable business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and implement the company-wide SHEQ strategy in line with business objectives
- Act as the senior authority on health, safety, environmental, quality, and training matters
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation, standards, and client requirements
- Promote a positive, proactive safety culture at all levels of the organisation
- Oversee audits, inspections, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide expert guidance and challenge to senior management, project teams, and site leadership
- Develop and manage training frameworks to ensure competence across the workforce
- Represent the business with clients, regulators, and external stakeholders
About You
- Proven senior leadership experience in a SHEQ role within the construction or civil engineering sector, ideally with 10+ years in safety leadership.
- Strong working knowledge of UK health & safety and environmental legislation
- Chartered or professionally qualified (e.g. CMIOSH, NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent)
- Strategic thinker with the ability to influence, lead, and inspire at board and site level
- In-depth knowledge of UK HSE legislation and industry standards with experience of managing ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems
