The Role
This position sits within the Water and Wastewater Capital Project Delivery team, supporting the delivery of essential infrastructure that protects the environment while maintaining longāterm asset resilience. As Civil Site Team Leader, you will be part of the Construction Team, working on a longāterm water framework based in Colchester. Reporting to the Site Manager, you will take responsibility for the dayātoāday supervision of delivery teams and subācontractors, overseeing projects from inception through to completion. This is a handsāon, siteābased leadership role with strong responsibility for SHEQ performance programme delivery and quality control across multiple concurrent projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise site activities across water and wastewater construction projects
- Manage delivery teams and subācontractors on a daily basis
- Implement and monitor Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards
- Take accountability for SHEQ performance, including site inspections and audits
- Complete and manage SHEQ documentation: risk assessments, method statements, toolbox talks and inspections
- Drive a positive safety culture and support behavioural and cultural change on site
- Monitor environmental performance and waste reduction initiatives
- Ensure site welfare facilities are maintained and compliant
- Verify that all site personnel hold relevant qualifications and training
- Coordinate with suppliers, specialist contractors, internal teams and installation crews
- Attend internal and external progress and review meetings
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget
- Record near misses, ensure MTRA compliance and carry out adāhoc risk assessments
What You'll Bring
- Experience within the water industry or civil engineering construction environment
- Site Safety Management qualification or equivalent (5-day course)
- Strong background in civil installations
- Proven experience managing subācontractors on live construction sites
- Good understanding of legislative, corporate and industry SHEQ requirements
- Basic management training with strong leadership skills
- Strong IT capability, including MS Office
- Good planning, coordination and programme management skills
- A proactive, safety-first and delivery-focused mindset
Working Environment
This is a fully site-based role, requiring close collaboration with construction and delivery teams on site, as well as regular communication with the local office and wider project stakeholders.
