About The Role

CALA Homes (North) are looking for an Apprentice Joiner to join our team based in Aberdeen on a fixed-term apprenticeship contract.

Our Construction teams are responsible for the safe delivery of homes to our customers. This team pays particular attention to Health, Safety & Environmental matters, Programme Attainment, Product Quality, Cost Management, Contractor and Supplier liaison, with ultimately a strong customer focus. The Construction team in the North works closely with our Commercial, Technical, Sales, and Customer Service colleagues to ensure a team approach.

In this role, you will operate as a trades person alongside studying towards achieving a SCQF Level 6 Qualification in Carpentry & Joinery at North East Scotland College (NESCOL) over a period of 3-4 years. You will be required to attend college in block releases (between 2-4 weeks each year of study) at NESCOL, whilst also being a key member of the Cala team. Attendance at college classes is mandatory and must be treated in the same way as any other working day.

Alongside studying for your qualification, you will gain experience working with a major UK housebuilder and leading provider of desirable homes across Scotland. You will receive on the job training and be given learning opportunities to develop your core skills and help set you up for success. You will also have support from the wider business and peers.

Your key responsibilities will therefore include:

  • Work safely at all times taking instruction from your mentor and following all site rules
  • Be committed to the apprenticeship programme and show willingness to learn from training being delivered, complete college portfolio in a timely manner
  • Take ownership of your development, work proactively with your mentor to assess areas of strength, further development areas and personal objectives
  • As a Cala employee your conduct and behaviour during your college study and time on site must be exemplary
  • Take and action all instructions given, work with others as part of a bigger team to achieve results and develop meaningful working relationships
  • Be at work on time and properly prepared to work
  • Communicate with line manager any concerns or issues as soon as they arise
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, regarding safety, time keeping, housekeeping and respect for other team members
  • Supporting on-site teams and provide assistance as and where required
  • Carrying out required duties to ensure the site is running safely, effectively and in accordance to our Minimum Standards document
  • Report Health and Safety issues to Site Management and deal with issues where possible
  • Maintaining high-quality standards

About You

We are seeking a new team member who is confident and has the passion and ability to succeed at the highest level.

Ideally you will have achieved, or be on track to achieve the following qualifications in advance of August 2025:

  • National 4 in English and Maths

You should also be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A team-player
  • Interest in the housebuilding industry
  • Industry experience is beneficial but not mandatory
  • Must have full Right to Work in the UK
  • Must have valid UK Driving License (or be working towards obtaining a driving license and have the ability to travel to site and college)
  • Must live in Scotland
  • Must be aged 16 or over
