Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd. is the largest crane hire and heavy lifting services company based in Caithness.

A post has arisen for a LIFTING ENGINEER/ APPOINTED PERSON to join our team on a full time basis.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Develop detailed lifting and rigging plans in accordance with LOLER and BS 7121 regulations using CAD.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate cranes and equipment for the job requirements.
  • Develop risk assessment and method statement documentation for lifting operations.
  • Coordinate and supervise crane and lifting activities.
  • Liaise with customer, lifting operations team to ensure safe execution of lifting tasks.
  • Ensure all lifting operations adhere to industry best practices and company policies.
  • Conduct pre-lift meetings and toolbox talks to communicate lifting plans and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of lifting operations, including permits and records.
  • Provide technical guidance on lifting methodologies and equipment selection.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and assist in audits and inspections.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in lifting operations and ability to interpret drawings and crane load charts.
  • Advanced skills in Auto CAD.
  • Strong knowledge of LOLER, PUWER and BS 7121.
  • Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and make critical safety decisions.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Appointed Person (Lifting Operations), or the desire to achieve the qualification.
  • Lift supervisor and Slinger Signaller certification.
  • Experience working with mobile cranes, plant, rigging equipment.

Please note- the applicant may need to work also on sites out with the county on occasions- ability to travel and work flexible hours including additional hours/ shifts, some weekends is essential for this post.

Where travelling to site is required, a company vehicle will be provided.
