Salary: Salary will be paid in GBP in the UK, USD in Harare and the equivalent in local currency in Nairobi (KES).

Locations: The position is open to candidates from the following CAFOD offices: London, UK (Home/Hybrid) | Starting Salary - £48,225 - £52,080 (including London weighting), Nairobi, Kenya | Starting Salary - 7,431,414 KSH, Harare, Zimbabwe | Starting Salary - $55,354 USD.

Contract: Permanent/Rolling - Dependent on local labour laws. Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship or work permits for this posting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business support for the international-focused programmes.
  • Lead and maintain a community of practice among the national office finance officers and accountants to strengthen national office capacity, maintain robust financial events and controls, and ensure national office requirements are reflected in central system developments.
  • Provide strategic support to international offices to address capacity gaps, including, where needed, providing surge support.
  • Oversee the national office book-keeping to ensure records are accurate, debtors and creditors are settled on a timely basis, and funds are managed effectively.
  • Lead the management of inter-office transactions, ensuring transactions are reconciled and allocated accurately.
  • Lead the national office annual audit cycle.
  • Support the Country Representatives in strengthening their oversight and financial planning for the National Offices they lead.
  • Advise the Director of International Programmes and International Programme Leadership Team in making strategic resource allocation and financial decisions.
  • Support programmes in strengthening their ways of working and identifying solutions to financial constraints and obstacles that threaten programme delivery.
  • Travel as needed to provide additional support during emergencies, temporary capacity gaps, or periods of increased operational demand, including audit support.
  • Provide business support to national offices to strengthen financial operations and service delivery.
  • Provide support on integrated funding and supporter fundraising initiatives, while building the capacity of non-financial managers to manage budgets and resources effectively.
  • Support the development of internal and external capacity-building initiatives.
  • Provide technical finance support and act as a key point of contact for colleagues working outside the UK.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ways of working, streamline processes, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Promote the effective use of technology and AI to enhance delivery, insight, and decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of business model improvements and transformation initiatives.
  • Support improvements in logistics, operations, and supply chain management to ensure value for money and effective service delivery.

Operational Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and support change management activity to ensure operational improvements are implemented effectively, embedded well, and understood across teams.
  • Contribute to strategy development by translating organisational priorities into practical operational plans, measurable objectives, and clear delivery frameworks.
  • Promote a common culture and shared organisational DNA by encouraging collaboration, consistency, accountability, and alignment with CAFOD’s values and ways of working.
  • Drive performance optimisation through continuous review of processes, systems, and team practices to improve efficiency, quality, and service delivery.
  • Champion a holistic and integrated approach to operational performance, ensuring that planning, delivery, people, systems, and resources work together effectively.

  • Work collaboratively to deliver CIF’s strategic goals through clearly defined KRAs for its three integrated objectives, with agreed KPIs to measure performance.
  • Improve efficiency through shared ways of working and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a strong customer-focused mindset and a collaborative partnering approach with key stakeholders.
  • Encourage the team to strengthen finance capability across UK and international programmes, and with project partners where appropriate.

Job Specific Competencies

  • Expertise in international finance operations across multi-currency and donor-funded environments, with experience ensuring compliance and building finance capability among non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong data capability, with experience in financial systems, data integrity, and using technology (including AI where relevant).
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to empathise and understand needs and influence key stakeholders.
  • The ability to work as a team and work in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Finance professional with an analytical approach and excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience of Staff Performance Management and Development.
