The role

We are looking for a

Data Platform Lead at Caffè Nero. The role is based at our offices in Covent Garden, Central London.

Reporting to the Head of Data Engineering and AI, the Data Platform Lead will play a central role in designing, building and evolving the Caffè Nero Group’s data platform.

Using Snowflake, Matillion and Power BI, they will ensure our data solutions are scalable, reliable and aligned with the long-term needs of the business.

They will bridge technical delivery with business priorities, helping our teams turn data into meaningful insight and better decisions.

They will also lead the day-to-day delivery of the data team and help shape how Caffè Nero uses advanced analytics and AI to create business and customer value.

Key accountabilities for this role include

  • Data platform and architecture
  • Own the technical direction and ongoing development of Caffè Nero’s data platform.
  • Design scalable, resilient and maintainable solutions using Snowflake, Matillion and related technologies.
  • Establish strong architectural and engineering standards while optimising platform performance, reliability and cost.
  • Data engineering and delivery
  • Lead the development of reliable ETL and ELT pipelines, data models and integrations.
  • Ensure data solutions are appropriately tested, monitored, documented and supported.
  • Resolve complex technical issues and promote automation and effective engineering practices.
  • Reporting, analytics and data quality
  • Oversee the development of trusted Power BI datasets, reports and dashboards.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into practical reporting and analytical solutions.
  • Maintain high standards of data quality, consistency and accessibility while enabling governed self-service analytics.
  • AI and advanced analytics
  • Help define and deliver Caffè Nero’s data and AI roadmap.
  • Identify and prioritise practical opportunities to use AI, machine learning and advanced analytics.
  • Lead initiatives from proof of concept through to production, ensuring they deliver measurable value and are supported by appropriate data and governance.
  • Leadership and business partnering
  • Lead, coach and develop the data team, setting priorities and ensuring high-quality delivery.
  • Build trusted stakeholder relationships and keep the team’s work aligned with wider business objectives.
  • Communicate technical concepts, progress, risks and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

The successful candidate will have

  • Strong experience designing and delivering modern cloud data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Matillion or comparable technologies.
  • Advanced SQL skills and practical Python experience.
  • Strong knowledge of data modelling, including Kimball methodology.
  • Experience building robust data pipelines, integrations and analytical datasets.
  • Experience developing semantic models, reports and dashboards using Power BI.
  • Experience leading data professionals, setting priorities and reviewing technical output.
  • Strong business partnering and communication skills, with an ability to turn complex requirements into effective data solutions.
  • Experience of AI or machine learning, modern development practices, data governance, third-party partners or retail and hospitality data would be an advantage.
