What will be your role in the company?
The successful candidate will work as part of a skilled depot team delivering high‑quality modifications, refurbishments, and retrofit installations within strict project deadlines and safety requirements. Your daily duties will include:
- Carry out planned modifications, repairs, and retrofit work on Mk5 Caledonian Sleeper.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and work instructions.
- Install, remove, modify, and test mechanical and electrical components.
- Perform fault finding and rectification where required.
- Complete all work in line with project specifications, quality standards, and safety procedures.
- Ensure all work is completed within allocated timescales.
- Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets, and maintenance documentation both manually and in electronic format.
- Support testing and commissioning activities following modifications.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards within the depot/work area.
- Work collaboratively with team leaders, engineers, quality inspectors, and other technicians.
- Adhere to all company Health & Safety procedures, including PPE and rail industry regulations.
What salary will you be paid for this role?
As a Real Living Wage Employer, we are proud to pay competitively at CAF. For this role you will be offered a salary in the region of £53,000 per annum.

To succeed in this role you will need:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering
- Experience carrying out modifications, refurbishments, or retrofit installations.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and engineering instructions.
- Competent with mechanical fitting and/or electrical installation work.
- Strong understanding of safe working practices.
- Good attention to detail and quality standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to shifts and overtime when required.
