What will be your role in the company?

As a Material Controller, you will support depot operations by managing all materials and stock movements within the warehouse and ensuring that systems and records are accurate and up to date. You’ll process all goods inwards and outwards, including repairable materials and associated shipping documentation, and liaise with CAF colleagues, customers and suppliers on materials transactions, stock queries, inspections and audits. You will coordinate logistics with suppliers and the local depot, expedite open orders, and maintain material logs, system updates and documentation to provide clear, reliable information for the wider team. In addition, you’ll support Operations, Procurement and the Stores & Logistics function with materials planning and control, occasional stocktaking at other locations, and the implementation of CAF procedures and processes.

What will make you successful in this position?

  • Qualifications: English Language and Mathematics at standard grade 3 or above (or equivalent), Full, valid driving licence.
  • Essential: Proven relevant experience in a similar role (e.g. warehousing operations, materials inventory management), Proven experience using an ERP system and strong general computer skills, Experience with logistics and stock control systems, Clear and effective communication skills, Strong numeracy, literacy, IT skills and high attention to detail, Ability to coordinate and organise logistics with key suppliers, Flexibility and ability to work under own initiative in a standalone stores role.
  • Desirable: Experience working within an engineering or rail environment, Experience supporting wider depot operations including stocktaking at multiple locations, Ability to provide support and training on stores, logistics and CAF processes when required.

What Salary will you be paid for this role?

As a Real Living Wage Employer, we are proud to pay competitively at CAF. For this role you will be offered a salary in the region of £34,000 per annum.
