As a Cloud Core Platform Engineer, you will be essential in supporting our developers, lower environments, and ultimately our production system. We run a 24x7x365 business and must develop a highly performant, resilient, scalable, and user-focused platform. You will assist in the implementation of critical projects while working with your team (pod), collaborate across teams within the platform organization to ensure best practices and innovative solutions are adopted and interact with Developers to get their code into production. We focus on delivering exceptional user experiences for our developers and areas of support. This role empowers you to lead the charge in advancing frontend technologies and fostering a culture of engineering excellence. This is a hybrid role reporting onsite to our Leeds, United Kingdom office 1-2 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Leverage your expertise to assist in design, develop, and optimize complex features along with the technical lead and solutions architect.
- Build and maintain extremely performant components optimized for our developers to deliver world class applications in a secure and reliable manner.
- Assist in delivering initiatives to meet the demands of our business: A Stable, performant, supportable platform.
- Tackle optimization challenges head-on, creating efficient, reusable, and modular code using design patterns and best practices.
- Stay at the forefront of platform technologies, continuously exploring and implementing new techniques to improve development workflows.
- Actively participate in peer code reviews, offering and receiving constructive feedback to drive code quality.
- Foster technical growth and collaboration within the engineering team.
- Implement feature quality analytics to inform product decisions and monitor performance.
- Take part in On-Call Support.
Qualifications
- 4–6 years of experience developing infrastructure as code solutions.
- Experience working in Kubernetes environments.
- Experience using tools like OTEL, NewRelic, and Splunk to understand performance and issues.
- Thorough understanding of Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, and containers - core principles, patterns, and best practices.
- Open to learning how to implement and support scalable, maintainable, and robust hybrid platform architecture.
- Understanding of security controls around cloud solutions.
- Excellent communication, able to clearly articulate and raise risks, issues, and plans.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, bash scripting, python or GO languages.
- Problem-solving skills for tackling complex, unconventional technical challenges.
- Proficient and active in code reviews.
- This position is a core contributor and requires committing of quality code.
- Strong understanding of MakeFiles, DockerBuild files, and YAML.
Nice to Have
- Proficiency in testing methodologies (unit, integration, and UI tests).
- A background in working with real-time applications and push data.
- Excellent time and project management skills, with a track record of delivering high-quality products.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience.
