Reporting to: Managing Director

As a result, the business is forming three distinct business units which will be the delivery arms of the business going forward; Gas, Water Capital and Water & Wastewater Reactive Works. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our journey and help shape the organisation as we move into the next phase of development. Each unit will have a dedicated SQS to lead on all commercial activity for that business unit.

Each SQS will lead the commercial team within that business unit working closely with the Head of Operations. The SQS will be managing applications, tenders, project budgets, subcontractors, cash flow, efficiency, contractual risks and management reporting.

  • Pre and Post commercial management of various contracts and frameworks.
  • Agreeing initial prices/costing with clients and subcontractors – SOR and lump sum.
  • Managing subcontractor payment assessment, pay less notice and payment certificates as well as any other legislation practices.
  • Assess and agree variations, early warnings and compensation events with clients and subcontractors.
  • Working closely with and supporting Operational Lead on commercial and contract management.
  • Risk management of relevant contracts.
  • Completion of weekly profit and loss accounts for each contract and review with Operational Lead.
  • Supporting Operational Management in understanding contract obligations and any commercial impact to decisions.
  • Producing and reviewing MI on commercial and productivity performance for each contract with Operational Management.
  • Commercial management and negotiations with relevant suppliers.
  • Line management of Quantity Surveyor and or Assistant Quantity Surveyor.

Strong background in commercial management within utilities or a related industry. Excellent commercial and contractual understanding. Full UK Driving Licence. Ability to work across the North of England with regular travel between operational depots and work sites.
