Overview of the Senior Wind Tunnel Model Systems Engineer role at Cadillac Formula 1 Team, Silverstone. In this role, you will be part of a group supporting the development and integration of wind tunnel model systems and technologies. Responsibilities:
- Design & Development: Lead the design, integration, and testing of wind tunnel model systems (onboard and off-model), including instrumentation, data acquisition, control systems, and related rigs.
- System Setup & Operation: Oversee the installation, calibration, and operation of model systems and metrology equipment, ensuring class-leading testing performance.
- Problem Solving & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve electrical, electronic, and mechanical system issues, maintaining high reliability and safety standards.
- Innovation & Process Improvement: Research and implement new technologies, methods, and measurement techniques to enhance aerodynamic testing capabilities.
- Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with aerodynamic and performance engineers, maintain accurate technical records, and mentor junior team members.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience with wind tunnel model systems, sensors, and motorsport testing environments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical/electrical assemblies, instrumentation, and metrology systems.
- Proficiency in fault-finding, problem-solving, and relevant communication protocols (e.g., CAN bus, EtherCAT).
- Experience with programming tools such as LabVIEW, Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, or similar; PCB design skills advantageous.
- Knowledge of motorsport-standard data acquisition systems (e.g., Pi Toolbox, ATLAS) and strong IT skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to work under tight deadlines and travel as required.
