Shape the future of hydrogen infrastructure through commercial excellence. We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Quantity Surveyor to join our Capital Delivery team on a permanent basis. You will work Monday to Friday, with a mix of office, site and home working and the role will involve regular travel between Cadent and consultant offices in the West Midlands and London, with occasional visits to project sites in the North West (North Wales, Greater Manchester, Lancashire) or the East Coast (Lincolnshire to Nottinghamshire), so a full UK driving licence is essential.
This role supports some of Cadent’s most significant and innovative Hydrogen Major Projects, including HyNet and the East Coast Hydrogen Pipeline. These projects are at varying stages of estimation and design and represent a once‑in‑a‑generation investment in the UK’s future energy infrastructure.
As a Project Quantity Surveyor, you’ll oversee the day‑to‑day commercial and contractual management of major infrastructure projects, while reporting into a Commercial Manager to ensure value, governance and control throughout the project lifecycle. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Commercial professional to further develop their skillset within a technically complex, high‑profile and evolving engineering environment.

What you’ll bring:
- You’re a commercial professional with strong experience working in regulated environments and a passion for delivering value on major infrastructure projects.
- Commercial & Quantity Surveying Expertise – Degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, with proven experience in Quantity Surveying or Commercial roles within utilities, infrastructure or construction environments.
- NEC Contract Knowledge – Strong expertise in NEC3 / NEC4, ECC / PSC forms contract, particularly Options A, C and E, with confidence managing contract administration, cost assurance, forecasting and change control in line with governance requirements.
- Financial & Systems Capability – Proficient in financial and commercial systems, including contract management, procurement and cost engineering tools, with the ability to produce detailed cost reports and forecasts to support proactive, informed decision‑making.
- Stakeholder & Supplier Management – Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage high volumes of change under NEC Terms & Conditions while maintaining strong internal and external relationships.
- Collaborative Mindset – A positive attitude and strong team‑working ethic, with a collaborative approach to problem solving, critical thinking and continuous improvement.
- Customer Focus – A genuine care for the customer, recognising the responsibility that comes with owning and operating the UK’s largest gas distribution network, where customer satisfaction underpins every decision.
