As our Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the design, engineering and operational integrity management of complex compressor systems, flow control valve systems, pressure control equipment, and other critical engineering packages across our network.
This is more than a traditional mechanical engineering role. You'll act as the technical focal point, bringing together multiple engineering disciplines, vendors, contractors, and operational stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and high-performing solutions are delivered throughout the project lifecycle. From concept and specification through to procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover, you'll provide the leadership and technical assurance needed to maintain engineering integrity, manage risk, and deliver outstanding solutions.
You'll also support site activities during installation and commissioning, working with project teams to resolve technical challenges and ensuring designs perform as intended from day one. Working across a diverse portfolio of projects, you'll influence engineering strategy, champion innovation, mentor developing engineers, and help drive the adoption of new technologies that support the future of our business.
Why you'll love this role
- Technical Leadership - Lead multidisciplinary engineering activities across major compression, flow control, and pressure control projects.
- End-to-End Engineering Ownership - Influence projects from specification and design through procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational handover. You will own key specifications for new technologies.
- Complex Problem Solving - Resolve challenging technical issues, manage interfaces, and drive robust engineering solutions across multiple stakeholders.
- Safety & Reliability Focus - Play a key role in embedding process safety principles and ensuring equipment delivers long-term operational performance.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement - Drive new technologies, digital engineering tools, and lessons learned to improve the way we deliver projects.
- Visible Business Impact - Influence strategic engineering decisions that directly support network resilience, safety, and customer outcomes.
- Mentoring Opportunities - Share your expertise by developing and supporting engineering and operational colleagues to maintain and operate new technologies.
What you'll bring
You're an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in complex engineering projects, equipment packages, and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Engineering Expertise - Proven experience coordinating mechanical, process, E&I, civil, controls, and safety disciplines within complex engineering environments.
- Equipment Package Experience - Strong knowledge of compressor systems, flow control valves, pressure control systems, or similar industrial equipment packages.
- Technical Assurance Skills - Experience reviewing and approving specifications, vendor documentation, calculations, technical queries, deviations, and design changes.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Management - Confident working with OEMs, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to achieve integrated engineering solutions.
- Process Safety Knowledge - Experience contributing to HAZOPs, HAZIDs, risk assessments, and engineering governance processes.
- Problem Solving Capability - Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify technical risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Leadership & Influence - Able to engage and influence stakeholders across multiple functions while driving projects forward.
- Adaptability - Comfortable managing conflicting priorities and operating effectively across multiple projects and workstreams.
