Project Quantity Surveyor in Coventry

Cadent Gas Ltd – Shape the future of hydrogen infrastructure through commercial excellence. We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Quantity Surveyor to join our Capital Delivery team on a permanent basis. You will work Monday to Friday, with a mix of office, site and home working. The role involves regular travel between Cadent and consultant offices in the West Midlands and London, with occasional visits to project sites in the North West (North Wales, Greater Manchester, Lancashire) or the East Coast (Lincolnshire to Nottinghamshire). A full UK driving licence is essential. This role supports some of Cadent’s most significant and innovative Hydrogen Major Projects, including HyNet and the East Coast Hydrogen Pipeline. These projects are at varying stages of estimation and design and represent a once‑in‑a‑generation investment in the UK’s future energy infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day‑to‑day commercial and contractual management of major infrastructure projects.
• Report into a Commercial Manager to ensure value, governance and control throughout the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to the delivery of projects within a technically complex, high‑profile and evolving engineering environment.

• Commercial Leadership – Take ownership of contract administration, cost assurance and change control processes on major infrastructure projects, ensuring strong governance and value throughout delivery.
• Supplier Collaboration – Work closely with suppliers to track performance, verify progress and actively manage productivity and efficiency.
• Stakeholder Engagement – Partner with Legal, Finance, Procurement, Engineering and external delivery partners to execute projects efficiently and deliver value on behalf of Cadent.
• Continuous Improvement – Contribute to commercial strategies and process enhancements that improve efficiency, governance and customer satisfaction.
• Networking & Exposure – Build strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders across Gas Distribution and Hydrogen Transportation environments.

What you’ll bring (Qualifications and Experience)

• Commercial & Quantity Surveying Expertise – Degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, with proven experience in Quantity Surveying or Commercial roles within utilities, infrastructure or construction environments.
• NEC Contract Knowledge – Strong expertise in NEC3 / NEC4, ECC / PSC forms of contract, particularly Options A, C and E, with confidence in contract administration, cost assurance, forecasting and change control in line with governance requirements.
• Financial & Systems Capability – Proficient in financial and commercial systems, including contract management, procurement and cost engineering tools, with the ability to produce detailed cost reports and forecasts to support proactive decision‑making.
• Stakeholder & Supplier Management – Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage high volumes of change under NEC Terms & Conditions while maintaining strong internal and external relationships.
• Collaborative Mindset – Positive attitude and strong team‑working ethic, with a collaborative approach to problem solving, critical thinking and continuous improvement.
• Customer Focus – Genuine care for the customer, recognising the responsibility that comes with owning and operating the UK’s largest gas distribution network, where customer satisfaction underpins every decision.
• Development Focus – Proactive approach to personal development and the progression of capabilities across Project and Commercial teams.
