The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) is an independent social change organisation, working to support and speed up the transition to a more equitable and just future, free from poverty, where people and planet can flourish. Today, JRF supports and undertakes many different types of work in all four nations of the UK. This includes policy development and insight gathering, advocacy and campaigns, impact investment, funding pioneers and visionaries, field building, and supporting those building grassroots movements.
In autumn 2024, JRF Trustees approved a £10 million investment and 5-year commitment to help protect, grow and connect the thinkers, activists and researchers who are creating transformative approaches to wealth and investment, whose work centres equitable and regenerative principles and helps shift capital in service of people and planet. Badged internally as the ‘Transforming Wealth Lab’, our intention is to connect to international best practice and help grow this field across the UK, not just through our own investment practice, but by playing an active role in field-building, catalysing co-investment and influencing the wider market and cultural paradigm.
The purpose of this role is to ensure effective delivery of the Transforming Wealth Lab programme, translating the strategy, mission and values of the Lab into meaningful stakeholder relationships, impactful field building, practical operational plans and thoughtful funding practices. You’ll help us show that JRF, as a mission-driven funder, wealth holder and social change organisation, can model relationality, flexibility and partnership to support the evolution of a growing field.
We want to hear from candidates who can navigate complexity and uncertainty with curiosity and creativity, juggling many different moving parts, anticipating risks and challenges, identifying a path forward with partial or ambiguous information, and generatively engaging with conflict and power dynamics to build trust and hold the radical intention of the programme alive.
You must have an extensive track record of ambitious partnership building, startup leadership, programme delivery, and/or community organising, and bring a high level of competence in project and programme management techniques, as well as excellent communication skills in a range of domains. An understanding of empirical research methods and/or innovation processes is essential, and you will be able to synthesise multiple sources of information into high-impact outputs. Knowledge of inclusive facilitation, participatory design, and a deep commitment to intersectional social, environmental and economic justice, are all essential.
