A well-established main contractor with a strong public sector presence is seeking an experienced Estimating Manager to lead its pre-construction function in London.
This is a senior role responsible for managing a team of estimators and delivering high-quality tenders across a range of new build and refurbishment projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in securing future workload and supporting the company’s continued growth.
The Role
Reporting directly to senior management, the Estimating Manager will be responsible for the preparation and submission of accurate, competitive and fully compliant tenders within agreed deadlines. Working closely with pre-construction and operational teams, the role supports sustainable business growth while maintaining the organisation’s reputation for professionalism and commercial integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop a team of six estimators
- Deliver tenders for public sector projects across new build and refurbishment
- Review and interrogate tender documents, identifying risks and opportunities
- Produce and review detailed take-offs, Bills of Quantities and pricing build-ups
- Price Traditional and Design & Build projects
- Manage both single-stage and two-stage tender processes
- Oversee subcontractor and supplier enquiries, analysis and selection
- Attend site visits and incorporate findings into tender pricing
- Prepare preliminaries, construction programmes and cost plans
- Lead tender reviews and adjudication meetings with senior stakeholders
- Finalise tender submissions and ensure full compliance with deadlines
- Complete structured handovers to delivery teams following contract award
- Attend post-tender meetings and support value engineering where required
Leadership & Governance
- Review and check tenders produced by other estimators as required
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to the estimating team
- Support budget costing and early-stage feasibility pricing
- Ensure internal estimating procedures, reviews and reporting processes are followed
- Produce regular tender activity, pipeline and outcome reports for senior management
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in a Senior Estimator or Estimating Manager role with a main contractor
- Strong track record delivering public sector construction projects
- Demonstrable experience managing and developing estimating teams
- Excellent working knowledge of JCT forms of contract
- Confident pricing single-stage and two-stage tenders
- Experience pricing projects typically ranging from £100k to £10m
- Commercially astute with strong stakeholder management skills
