Summary

Caddick Construction is a family-owned business renowned for quality, integrity, and innovation in the construction sector. We are seeking an Assistant Planner (Graduate Level) to join our team due to a number of exciting new projects in the North East.

The North East is a key area of growth for Caddick Construction, giving you the opportunity to work on a range of projects and gain experience across different sectors and stages of construction. As a family-owned business, we place genuine value on developing our people and creating long-term careers. You will work closely with experienced members of our team, receive support and mentoring, and have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as your skills and confidence develop.

What You’ll Do

As a Planner, you will play an important role in helping our projects run successfully. Working alongside experienced construction professionals, you will learn how projects are planned, programmed and monitored from start to finish. You will develop an understanding of how different trades and activities are coordinated, how progress is tracked, and how potential delays and challenges are identified and managed. This is an opportunity to take the knowledge gained through your degree and apply it to live construction projects, while developing the practical and commercial skills needed to build a successful career in the Construction industry.

  • Support the development, maintenance, and monitoring of construction programmes across pre‑construction and live projects.
  • Assist in producing logic‑linked and integrated programmes covering design, procurement, approvals, and construction activities.
  • Gather and analyse project progress data, contributing to accurate planned vs actual tracking.
  • Support logistics planning, sequencing, and collaborative planning sessions with project teams.
  • Assist with programme controls, documentation, compliance checks, and planning audits.
  • Help identify planning‑related risks, opportunities, and buildability considerations.
  • Contribute to planning reports, dashboards, and inputs for monthly project reviews.
  • Work closely with Pre‑Construction, Commercial, Design Management, and Operations teams to ensure integrated planning information.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Construction and lessons learned.
  • Help maintain databases such as outputs, methodologies, and programme norms.

What We’re Looking For

Skills and Experience

  • Basic understanding of construction processes, buildability, or site operations (from education, placement, or early experience).
  • Awareness of construction planning principles such as logic linking, critical path, and programme structure.
  • Competent in MS Office tools, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Interest in digital construction, BIM, or 4D visualisation is advantageous.
  • Any previous exposure to project controls, design coordination, or pre‑construction activities is beneficial.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset with a genuine desire to learn.
  • Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Highly organised, able to manage multiple tasks with guidance.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and positive in fast‑paced environments.
  • Collaborative team player who can also take initiative when working independently.
  • Motivated by continuous improvement and delivering quality outcomes.
