CAD-IT are seeking an experienced Technical Author to join our team to develop, write and deliver technical documentation for a UK supplier of renewable energy solutions. We are interested in dynamic, engaging individuals with relevant qualifications and/or experience in power generation, renewables, energy, utilities, heavy industry or manufacturing and service technical documentation fields.

Person Specification

  • Proven experience as a Technical Author, ideally in power generation, renewables, energy, utilities, or heavy industry.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation.
  • Experience of working with engineers, SMEs, and project teams.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, safety documentation, or engineering processes.
  • Experience with document control systems.
  • Good level of IT literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • XML, HTML experience would be beneficial.
  • Experience with CAD and authoring software is desirable. However, we will provide training on all Technical Authoring software!
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., IEC, ISO, HSE guidelines).
  • Ability to deliver quality and consistency in a highly demanding environment.
  • Proactive, flexible, and able to work independently.
  • Good communication and professionalism to liaise with technicians, engineers, and senior management.
  • Ability to solve problems and deliver solutions is essential.
  • Understanding of power and energy technologies, e.g. hydropower, wind turbines, energy storage systems (batteries, hydrogen, thermal), etc.

Responsible for the creation of technical information to support Service/Maintenance. Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather technical information and ensure the accuracy and robustness of the content. Use and manipulate CAD for use in technical content. Organise and manage document repositories to ensure easy access and retrieval of technical information. Implement version control and document management best practices. Test documentation against practical use cases to ensure usability and effectiveness. Implement feedback from stakeholders and users to improve documentation quality continuously. Collation and analysis of technical issues, trends and updates. Plan, manage and deliver projects against a project plan on time and to a high standard. Conduct thorough reviews and edits of technical documents to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency. Stay abreast of relevant developments relating to the technical and safety aspects of the renewable energy services sector and best practices in technical writing.
