The role is to be part of a team to deploy a new Windows 11 OS to end user device estates across the UK over a 10-12 month period.
We have a number of Senior Engineers working on this project so we are now ideally looking for 2 or 3 juniors to join the team. So if you're a recent graduate and have an interest in IT this could be a great opportunity for you, we can give you training to get you up to speed.
The End User device will encompass
– Desktop and Hybrid/Laptop devices
– Virtual Desktops and associated applications
The Windows 11 Build and Deployment Engineer will be part of a programme to enable smooth transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Working within the End User Support Team, they will use a mixture of In-place upgrades and Bare Metal builds to accomplish this deployment.
The post holder will be required to provide effective end-user telephone, email, on site, and self-service support for specifically Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 Apps, off-the-shelf & bespoke applications, remote connectivity/VPN platforms and local/network printer support
There will also be a need to travel around the UK to 6 key business sites in Crawley, Belfast, Cheadle, Glasgow, Reading and Templecombe to support demand as deployment progresses through 2025
Main duties of the job
- The role requires the ability to perform machine builds and hardware/software installation for deployment of EUC devices and associated peripherals
- work closely with end users to migrate their profile data and key settings from old to new providing support to the Windows 11 programme team with device deployment for new starters, break/fix and existing users.
- troubleshoot and resolve issues reported to the Service Desk relating to the Windows 11 Deployment
- assisting local and regional site teams across the UK with deployments to all business areas working closely with the EndPoint packaging team to assist in discovery, testing and deployment of applications that have issues.
- maintain and oversee installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of end user workstations, hardware, software and peripheral devices, as well as manage tickets logged at the support desk, ensuring timely resolution in accordance with the agreed SLA's.
Skills and Abilities
Technical
- Experience in supporting Microsoft Windows 11 Enterprise OS and Microsoft 365 Apps
- Use of an enterprise image management/packaging tool such as SCCM or similar.
- Windows 10/11 Active Directory administrative tasks, printer / print server management, mailbox & user account creation etc.
- Experience of deploying/supporting a Windows deployment to an install base of over 5000 devices
- Use of incident management / helpdesk tools (i.e. SNOW) to log and update calls related to deployment
Non-Technical
- Must be a self-starter and adaptable/flexible with ability to cope with surges in demand or last minute changes in deployment
- Must be able to prioritise own work effectively and be able to work closely with others in deployment team
- Strong interpersonal skills in relation to end users and other infrastructure and application support teams.
- Ability to both interpret and explain complex IT issues and communicate these in a clear way to staff at all levels of the organisation.
