The Technical Manager will serve as the principal technical authority within the Digital Forensic Laboratory (DFL), providing expert knowledge and leadership across all aspects of Digital Forensics and associated services. This role is pivotal in ensuring the technical integrity and compliance of both Digital Forensic Investigations and Proficiency Testing activities, whether conducted within the laboratory or in external environments. The Technical Manager will be responsible for embedding and upholding all relevant standards (e.g. ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17043, FSR Codes) across all services, ensuring alignment with accreditation requirements and best practice.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical Leadership & Accreditation: Provide expert technical input to ensure that CACI's Digital Forensic Laboratory (DFL) service offerings and laboratory environments meet and maintain all required specifications, standards, and accreditations.
- Laboratory Infrastructure & Compliance: Collaborate with the Operations Director and Quality Manager to establish and maintain efficient, compliant laboratory environments, contributing to their design, layout, and technical infrastructure.
- Operational Oversight: Oversee the technical management of Digital Forensic Investigation and Proficiency Testing schemes, ensuring operations align with the Quality Management System (QMS) and meet established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Equipment & Systems Management: Assist with the procurement, installation, configuration, and ongoing management of all equipment, software, and systems required to deliver DFL services.
- Business Development & Representation: Support CACI Ltd. sales and business development teams in sourcing, tendering, and securing contracts, or introducing new products and services.
- Service Delivery & Competency: Oversee Digital Forensic activities and related services to fulfil customer contracts and maintain personal technical competence.
- Quality Assurance & Standards: Ensure compliance with departmental and organisational standards, including ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO/IEC 17043:2023.
- Management & Deputisation: Provide management information to support laboratory operations and quality performance.
- Innovation & Professional Development: Perform environmental horizon scanning and research into emerging digital forensic methods, tools, risks, and opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Educated to degree level in a Computer Science or Digital Forensic based discipline or significant experience of working within Technical leadership roles within an accredited Digital Forensic environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of established principles and best practices, Forensic Science Regulators Codes of Practice, BS EN ISO/IEC17025, ILAC G19 and other related guidance documents applicable to Digital Forensics.
- Advanced knowledge and experience of common operating systems, file systems, applications and networking technologies.
- Experience of managing and conducting large and complex digital investigations, using a range of forensic hardware and software tools, applications and techniques.
- Full current UK / European driving licence (incl. business insurance). Willingness and ability to travel for business purposes.
