As the Senior EC&I Engineer, you will be responsible for the reliability, safety, and performance of the site's electrical, control, and instrumentation systems. Working within a high-hazard manufacturing environment, you will provide technical leadership for electrical infrastructure, instrumentation, maintenance strategies, and compliance programs while supporting a strong safety-first culture.
Collaborating closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, SHE, and external contractors, you will drive reliability improvements, support capital projects, and ensure electrical and instrumentation assets operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory and site standards.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Promote safety as the number one priority. Provide leadership to encourage a safety first environment at all times, and take actions which demonstrate continuous improvement with respect to health, safety including process safety and the environment.
- Ensure compliance with UK legislative and site SH&E requirements.
- Own and manage the site electrical infrastructure (including 11kv, 415v, lower voltage systems and instrumentation) including maintenance program, upgrading, modifications and/or remaining in compliance with legislations / cabot standards.
- Own and manage the site electrical standards and drawings to ensure that they meet legal, corporate and local electrical requirement including safety standards.
- Working collaboratively with the maintenance supervisor, ensure that personnel are aware, trained and perform work according to any relevant legislation, and according to standard procedures and risk assessments which are complete and adequate.
- Support the Maintenance supervisor in leadership and management of the Electrical & Instrument Technicians to encourage and control an effective and disciplined workforce through energetic and driven leadership.
- Recognise and report any training needs within the team.
- Support the Engineering Manager for control and setting of the site Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance and shutdown budgets, and provide appropriate management of expenditure whilst ensuring all key preventive and corrective maintenance tasks are completed to schedule.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement in equipment reliability (including the areas of maintenance performance, plant reliability, and safety, health and environmental performance).
- Take responsibility to ensure that electrical/instrumentation maintenance schemes are in place such that Capital assets fulfill their life expectancy with minimum expenditure.
- Provide Project Management for small scale capital projects for replacement / equipment upgrades and be team member representing mechanical maintenance function for larger scale capital projects.
- Collaborate with Purchasing, SHE and Maintenance supervisor for the assessment and approval of Electrical contractor companies, including auditing performance and managing site activities.
- Authorized to issue Safe Work Permits (SWP's) for approved contract resource to maintain 11 KV systems work and electrical approver for excavation permits.
- Provide support for problem solving and making changes to site instrumentation systems, including access control, CCTV, fixed fire system, lighting etc.
- Ensure that the site remains compliant to the DSEAR regulations and the subsequent ATEX compliance.
- Provide Leadership and support for the implementation and on-going maintenance of safety critical electrical / instrumentation systems.
- Ensure that all Policies and Procedures for compliance, design and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation systems are documented, understood and accessible.
- Raise work orders and Purchase orders as necessary.
- Take responsibility for any other reasonable duties as required.
What You Will Bring to Cabot
- Technical expert in all levels of modern instrumentation expected to be found on a chemical processing plant including trouble shooting and calibration. (Training provided to remain abreast of new technologies.)
- Competent in full range of maintenance skills of electrical control equipment up to 11KV including transformers, switch rooms, MCC, electrical distribution networks, variable speed drive technology.
- Understanding of ladder logic and ability to perform first line maintenance on PLC system.
- Working knowledge of Hazardous area electrical equipment, maintenance and protection concepts.
- Technically competent in maintenance techniques.
- Ability to interrogate relevant data stored in site systems to aid trouble shooting.
Education/Experience
- Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering with significant experience.
- Experience in engineering and maintenance roles within a related industry.
- Experience of Process Safety management including Hazop / PHA, LOPA, SIL/SIS, DSEAR, Management of change.
- Knowledge of Capital Project management including design, construction, commissioning and start-up.
