Overview
Based in the Cabinet Office, the Economic and Domestic Secretariat (EDS) is responsible for developing, coordinating and agreeing the Government\'s domestic and economic agenda. EDS supports collective Cabinet decision‑making across Government, ensuring the smooth and effective running of Cabinet, Cabinet committees and Government decision‑making more generally. It provides advice to the Prime Minister and the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, drives the Government\'s priorities forward and brings departments together to resolve issues.
Role Summary
The Director General, EDS is one of the most demanding and high‑profile roles in Whitehall, providing a unique opportunity to work at the heart of Government on the highest‑priority issues. The successful candidate will lead the creation and implementation of the Government\'s domestic and economic agenda, provide advice to senior ministers and the Cabinet, and head four directorates with a workforce of 120 civil servants. The post holder will also serve as Head of Policy profession within the Cabinet Office.
Recruitment criteria
We are seeking an outstanding leader with a proven track record of delivering complex policy in high‑profile environments. The individual will be an expert negotiator across government, comfortable building relationships with senior ministers and officials, and able to think analytically. They will have extensive experience delivering in Government or similar complex organisations, outstanding leadership skills, and a dedication to completing long‑term objectives.
Salary and benefits
Alongside a salary of £130,000, the Cabinet Office contributes £37,661 towards your membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Other benefits include:

Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check and meet the security requirements before appointment. The required level of security is developed vetting.
