C9 Recruitment are looking for an experienced Body Engineer to join our client based in Purfleet, Essex. This operator is one of the UK’s most respected and long-established bus companies, renowned for its modern fleet, exceptional engineering standards, and customer-focused service. Operating local bus services, rail replacement, and private hire work, this role offers long-term stability, professionalism, and career growth within a trusted and progressive environment.
Job Description
- Full-time work (40 hours per week)
- Monday – Friday with some variation as and when required
- Available shift patterns: 7am – 3pm / 8am – 4pm
Salary
- £20 – £25 per hour depending on skills and experience
- Overtime to be calculated based on agreed hourly rate
Responsibilities
- Carry out high-quality body repairs, refurbishment, and structural maintenance across a fleet of buses and coaches
- Diagnose and rectify body defects, corrosion, accident damage, and cosmetic issues in line with company and DVSA standards
- Conduct welding, cutting, fabrication, and panel replacement using appropriate tools and materials
- Undertake fibreglass, aluminum, and steel repairs as required to restore vehicle integrity and appearance
- Assist in the preparation and finishing of bodywork for painting or refinishing
- Ensure all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high cosmetic standard
- Record all work completed using the company’s maintenance and fleet management systems
- Support engineering and paint shop teams to maintain overall fleet presentation and compliance
- Maintain all equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and organised condition
- Comply with all Health & Safety procedures and promote a safe working environment
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying and reporting recurring issues or potential process enhancements
- Represent the business professionally at all times, maintaining a positive and proactive attitude

Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Vehicle Body Repair / Coachbuilding (e.g. NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent)
- Proven experience in vehicle bodywork repair, welding, panel replacement, and refurbishment within a PSV/bus/coach environment
- Strong knowledge of body construction, materials, and repair techniques including MIG/TIG welding, panel beating, and fibreglass/composite repairs
- Ability to carry out accident damage repairs, interior and exterior panel work, and general cosmetic restoration to a high standard
- Experience with vehicle painting, preparation, and finishing desirable
- Valid UK Driving Licence (PCV licence advantageous)
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on safety, quality, and presentation
- Ability to work independently or as part of a skilled engineering team
- Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends or unsociable hours when required
- Awareness of PSV regulations and workshop safety procedures
- Good communication skills and a professional approach when liaising with colleagues and management
- Awareness of Health & Safety standards, with relevant qualifications (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent) desirable
- Must supply own comprehensive set of tools suitable for vehicle bodywork and fabrication tasks
- Willingness to undertake company assessments and a full medical prior to employment
