C3 Biotech is looking for a highly organised and proactive Facility & Laboratory Technician to oversee the daily operations of the laboratory and associated facilities. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including procurement, inventory control, compliance, facility safety, equipment maintenance, contractor management, and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will ensure that the laboratory operates efficiently, safely, and in accordance with regulatory and organisational standards. The successful candidate will work closely with the company’s Facility and Laboratory Manager and the Financial Controller.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Procurement & Inventory Management
- Organise and process orders for consumables and laboratory supplies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records.
- Submit and follow up on price and information requests from suppliers.
- Evaluate supplier quotations to ensure value and compliance.
- Maintain a filing system for delivery notes and goods received.
- Add invoices to accounting software when received.
2. Laboratory & Facility Operations
- Oversee routine cleaning and general upkeep of the laboratory and related facilities.
- Carry out and document routine facility checks, including:
- Fire safety equipment (alarms, extinguishers)
- First aid kits, spill kits, and emergency eyewash (e.g., Diphoterine)
- Legionella checks (e.g., flushing, temperature monitoring)
- Perform COSHH reviews and ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are current.
- Manage PPE availability, cleaning, and suitability checks.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance schedules and arrange servicing or repairs as needed.
- Ensure appropriate waste disposal procedures are followed, including chemical and general waste; maintain waste management records.
3. Contractor & Staff Management
- In collaboration with Facility and Laboratory Manager, manage external contractors, including arranging access, ensuring correct documentation, and monitoring performance.
- Support organisation of training sessions and staff visits.
- Provide door cover and front-of-lab coordination as required.
4. Compliance & Documentation
- Write, review, and maintain laboratory documents, including SOPs, checklists, and safety procedures.
- Take minutes during internal and cross-functional meetings (e.g., Safety, Facilities).
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations (including COSHH, PPE, waste handling, etc.).
- Lead or participate in risk assessments and hazard reviews.
5. Administrative & Support Duties
- Perform general administrative duties as required to support the science and engineering team.
- Provide support for facility-related documentation and filing systems.
- Communicate effectively with staff, suppliers, and management.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Degree or diploma in a scientific discipline or equivalent work experience.
- Extensive experience managing a laboratory or technical facility environment.
- Strong understanding of health and safety standards, including COSHH, PPE, and lab compliance.
- Excellent administrative, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Strong IT skills (e.g., MS Office, inventory systems, document control software).
- Experience working with suppliers and managing procurement or stock control processes.
- Familiarity with contractor and facilities management is a strong advantage.
