What you’ll do: We are seeking a capable, numerate individual to join our Commercial Directorate as a Commercial Analyst. Working to the Commercial Analysis Manager you will understand and accurately forecast the company’s passenger demand and revenue, delivering periodic and annual revenue forecasts, insight on the historical drivers of revenue performance, and support to the business casing of initiatives impacting revenue. Your work will be key in informing the company’s understanding of its market, financial decision making and forward planning.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide robust demand and revenue forecasts to underpin the company’s passenger revenue budgeting, and write supporting commentaries.
- Investigate and quantify the factors affecting recent passenger demand and revenue trends, and use the insight to inform reporting and future forecasting.
- Undertake variance analysis at period end and support the production of the period end revenue report.
- Forecast the revenue impacts of initiatives and external impacts using available research and evidence.
- Perform revenue sensitivity analysis to inform the company’s understanding of revenue risk and opportunity.
- Manage the c2c demand and revenue model, ensuring it remains fit for purpose.
- Co-ordinate with c2c’s Finance Analysts to ensure consistency of reporting and forecasting.
- Undertake demand and revenue forecasting projects on behalf of the Commercial Director, Finance Director and Head of Commercial Growth as directed.
- Promote and represent the interests of the company at industry forums.
What it takes:
- A drive to understand markets and customers, and the problem solving skills to reveal insight from data.
- A numerate degree or professional qualification, possibly in economics, statistics, or business studies.
- Excellent spreadsheet modelling skills including knowledge of macros and spreadsheet modelling best practice.
- Strong skills in writing and presenting information.
- Knowledgeable in the UK passenger rail market and in rail passenger demand forecasting techniques.
- Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- A keen eye for detail and an ability to sift through data to extract meaningful information.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts in easy to understand ways.
