The predicted salary is between 43200 - 72000 £ per year.

To develop and implement c2c’s Health, safety & environment strategies, management processes and standards, and lead their implementation across the c2c business. Provide professional occupational safety, health, wellbeing and environment advice and support to each of the functions. Ensure c2c remains compliant with Health & Safety legislation. Act as the first point of contact with c2c functions for health, safety & environmental advice and support. Provide assurance to the Lead HSE Manager that occupational health, safety and environmental arrangements are being conducted in accordance with statutory legislation and Railway group and industry standards.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepare and undertake planned collaborative field-based safety and environment audits, and inspections across c2c’s business to ensure compliance with c2c’s operating licence, Safety Management System, Industry Standards, plus all other legislation and regulatory requirements related to its business.
  • Identify areas for improvement and best practice during inspections.
  • Maintain a professional network to identify good practice in the industry and comparable sectors, implementing these as part of the corporate safety plan.
  • Provide advice and guidance on health, safety and environment matters to all parts of Trenitalia c2c.
  • Provide support to the business on statutory & regulatory compliance to ensure all works are undertaken in line with regulations and the safety and environment management systems.
  • Take an active role in the development and delivery of emergency planning and incident response activities.
  • Lead and manage incident investigations and the enabling processes required by company standards supporting implementation of shared learning to improve organisational knowledge and learning and reduce the likelihood and impact of events.
  • Provide advice on regulatory and internal requirements, including stakeholder engagement and regulatory liaison to assist in managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Support the Lead HSE Manager as required in the dissemination of their duties.
  • Act as the single point of contact for assigned functions on all matters relating to health, safety & the environment, building strong relationships and promoting the effective management of HSE risks.

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful attendance at Strategic Safety Management course (A.D. Little).
  • Audit qualification (Desirable).
  • Environmental Management Diploma or equivalent or working towards.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of the requirements of Health & Safety legislation, Construction Legislation (CDM Regs), Fire Safety and Environmental Legislation and the application of that legislation within the rail industry.

Health and Safety Responsibility:

  • To comply with health and safety instructions and directives issued by management.
  • To use the appropriate safety equipment properly.
  • To wear Personal Protective Equipment where applicable and report any loss.
  • To refrain from the wilful misuse or interference with anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare.
  • To ensure that all necessary safety precautions are taken and, if in a management or supervisory position, ensure that instructions are provided.
  • To report immediately any accidents, incidents or near misses to your line manager as soon as possible and always within 24 hours.
  • To attend and cooperate in any investigation following an incident as required.
  • To cooperate with your employer in attending and actively participating in any health and safety related training courses as required.
  • To report immediately any hazard, faulty equipment or health and safety concern to your line manager and ensure action is taken to make the hazard safe.
  • To be aware of your personal security and the security of your vehicle or place of work.
  • To comply with all company policies including the Safety and Environmental Policy Statements and Drugs and Alcohol Policy.
  • To be aware of the fire and emergency arrangements for my location and each location visited.
  • To set an example by carrying out my duties in a safe manner and ensuring that I do not put myself or others at risk.
