Purpose of the Job
This post will take the lead in running the station during their shift to provide a high standard of customer service, train service performance, safety and station operational compliance at your Station. Be the first point of contact on the station in dealing with any emergency, provide staff supervision and support on a shift basis.

Key Accountabilities

  • Be the focal point for train service delivery at the station, specifically during peak hours and service disruption, covering an on-call element.
  • Implement station emergency and evacuation arrangements as in line with the Station Impact Officer standard.
  • Provide support and staff supervision on a shift basis.
  • Provide 1:1 staff briefings regarding safety and the safe operation of the station.
  • Ensure that the signing in and briefing of contractors who have already been issued with access permits/RAMS by LSH takes place.
  • Carry out spot checks of contractor work activity and take appropriate action to maintain a safe and operational station environment.
  • Ensure that the range of daily and weekly safety and security checks, including a nightly station perimeter check, office and accommodation checks, defibrillators and gate line checks, are carried out and that appropriate records are kept (where permitted).
  • Carry out a daily and weekly test of the fire alarm panel, maintaining records of the same (where permitted).
  • Be the initial contact person for any station issues during the shift.
  • Be responsible for station evacuation (where permitted).
  • Act as the appointed person for first aid.
  • Ensure all accidents are reported and initial investigations are carried out.
  • Fault reporting, updating and monitoring register.
  • Purchasing of items from suppliers.
  • Being the shift point of contact for other operators for stations.

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications Required

  • Ticket office, train despatch and gate line competent.
  • High level of interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to deal with customers and staff in all situations.
  • Adaptable to challenging situations.
  • Experience of a commercial orientated industry.
  • Attendance at a 3-day first aid course.
  • Passing of company standard assessments for the role.
  • Station Incident Officer.

Health & Safety Responsibility

  • To comply with health and safety instructions and directives issued by management.
  • To use the appropriate safety equipment properly.
  • To wear Personal Protective Equipment where applicable and report any loss.
  • To refrain from the wilful misuse or interference with anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare.
  • To refrain from any action that might endanger themselves, other employees, customers or members of the public.
  • To ensure that all necessary safety precautions are taken and, if they are in a management or supervisory position, ensure that instructions are provided.
  • To report immediately any accidents, incidents or near misses to your line manager as soon as possible and always within 24 hours. This should include both personal injury and vehicle damage.
  • To attend and cooperate in any investigation following an incident as required.
  • To cooperate with your employer in attending and actively participating in any health and safety related training courses as required.
  • To report immediately any hazard, faulty equipment or health and safety concern to your line manager and ensure action is taken to make the hazard safe, e.g., fencing them off, using signs etc.
  • To be aware of your personal security and the security of your vehicle or place of work.
