Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Accountant role based in Hexham, Northumberland. The Accountant will manage Accounts and Tax Return preparation for Limited Companies, Partnerships, Sole Traders and Individuals. A knowledge of Trust Tax Returns would be beneficial. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing tax returns, supporting clients with management accounts, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and reporting requirements. The role involves regular client communication to explain financial information, answer queries, and provide practical business advice. Experience with Digita Practice Management would be beneficial but not essential as training will be given.

Summary of Job Functions

  • Proficiency with accounting and payroll software (e.g. cloud-based platforms such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) and solid Excel skills.
  • Regular contact with clients including working at client’s premises where appropriate.
  • Preparation of statutory accounts & supporting files for sole trader / partnerships / Trusts and audit exempt limited companies from varying standard of records.
  • Preparation of Income Tax and Corporation Tax computations.
  • Knowledge and experience of VAT and Payroll services
  • Preparation of management accounts for client.
  • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies, irregularities and tax investigations.
  • Completion of monthly, quarterly and year end reports where appropriate.
  • Provision of tax and financial information to the relevant authorities.
  • To provide reports as requested
  • Knowledge of UK tax regulations., including personal and corporate tax, VAT, and relevant compliance requirements.
  • Relevant professional qualification or progression (e.g. AAT, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent experience in practice).
  • Experience working in an accountancy practice environment is highly beneficial.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional integrity, and collaborative teamwork in a small-firm setting.
