Our garden supervisors’ main tasks include garden maintenance, care and development of various private and commercial gardens on the Isle of Wight, whilst supervising colleagues.

Gardening and soft landscaping

  • To include all aspects of gardening and soft landscaping.
  • Implementing organic and veganic gardening practices and materials.
  • Work includes regular scheduled garden maintenance, projects and blitzes.
  • Competent and safe use of all tools, hand and powered.
  • Working at height using ladders.
  • Reading and interpreting scaled drawings, garden designs, planting plans.
  • Waste transfers and waste management including good practice of composting green waste.

Vehicles

  • Shared driving of works vehicles, including manual diesel/petrol vans and EVs.
  • Seeing to vehicle checks and day to day maintenance and reporting.

Supervising and teamwork

  • Training, appraising and motivating employees.
  • Ensuring all colleagues receive relevant instruction, training if required and with clear task explanations.
  • Delegating with a view to bringing the best strengths together for the work in hand.
  • Working as part of a team and on occasion individually.
  • Reporting to colleagues and the office.

Health and safety

  • To work with health and safety as a priority for the employee, their colleagues, customers, and the public.
  • Ensuring health and safety is always adhered to, individually and as teams.
  • Attending and giving Toolbox inductions and talks.
  • Risk assessments and method statements produced and seen too.
  • Performing regular tool checks and maintenance.
  • First aider.
  • Fire marshalling.

Housekeeping

  • Keeping vehicles clean and tidy - inside and out.
  • Maintaining tools and keeping clean and sharp.
  • Ensuring workplaces including gardens, vehicles and business premises are safe, clean, neat, and tidy.

Communication

  • Building a positive relationship with customers, building their trust in the business and generating leads for further work with existing customers and new.
  • Following written and verbal instruction from the company owner, office and senior colleagues.
  • Liaising with company owner, office, customers, and colleagues in person, in writing, on phones, including via text, messaging and email.
  • Daily paperwork and record keeping.

Other duties and tasks may be required. We are a busy business offering a complete gardening package to our customers, and the role can be varied.
