Bytes is a CREST-certified penetration testing organisation with ambitious growth and expansion plans. We are looking for motivated individuals to join our testing team and work with a wide range of customers across all aspects of penetration testing. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a highly skilled and collaborative team, delivering high-quality testing and security consulting services in real-world environments.
We welcome candidates with either a broad set of skills or a focus on specific areas within penetration testing. Whether you're experienced or looking to grow, this role is ideal for anyone who has been providing penetration testing or security consulting services and wants to gain further experience, achieve new certifications, or simply work with a great team.
You will be working under the guidance of a team leader or Head of Assurance testing and will be actively involved in client engagements, while also having dedicated time to develop your skills and work towards industry-recognised certifications. A willingness to learn, adapt, and continuously improve is essential. In addition to hands-on testing work, you will also collaborate with the sales team to ensure appropriate scoping of new business opportunities. This includes providing technical input and helping to create accurate, well-defined proposals that set the foundation for successful project delivery. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform penetration testing assignments aligned with expertise, covering infrastructure, web applications, APIs, mobile applications, red team, and cloud configuration reviews.
- Deliver high-quality penetration testing services that provide real value to customers.
- Work under the direction of your team leader or head of Assurance testing on internal projects, research, development, as well as increasing the effectiveness of our services by bringing new ideas and ways of working.
- Collaborate with the sales team to ensure appropriate scoping of new business opportunities and creation of proposals for successful engagement delivery.
- Manage customer engagements to ensure high-quality and timely deliverables.
INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver penetration testing services to customers as part of a team.
- Provide technical assistance and support to colleagues, leveraging your expertise to foster knowledge sharing, collaborative problem-solving, and a productive team environment.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of reports and proposals to ensure accuracy and adherence to industry standards.
- Collaborate with the team to maintain and update the vulnerability database, ensuring it stays accurate and comprehensive.
- Support scoping calls and collaborate with account managers to define penetration testing requirements, provide technical input, and ensure seamless client interactions and service delivery.
- Improve knowledge and capability through both on-the-job learning and self-study, preparation for exams and bringing an enthusiastic can-do attitude.
- Deliver high-quality engagements to customers and deliver real value to them.
WIDER TEAM NETWORK:
- Internal: Other Cyber Consulting teams, Sales teams, Pre-Sales teams, Security team, IT.
- External: Customers, Partners / Suppliers.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
- Educational Qualifications: BSc degree or 3 years relevant experience (ESSENTIAL).
- Professional Qualifications: Any reputable penetration testing qualification (OSCP, GPEN, Security+, CPSA, CEH, CRT) (ESSENTIAL).
- Years of Experience: 1 to 3 years penetration testing / security experience, 1 year penetration testing consulting experience (ESSENTIAL).
- Other Requirements: Ability to pass BPSS or HMG SC vetting requirements. Ability to adapt to a fast-moving security landscape and keep pace with latest thinking. Strong customer focus – able to meet the demands of internal and external customers. Excellent communication skills – providing verbal and written communication that are outstanding to your team leader and Head of Assurance testing as well as other stakeholders including customers. Can make decisions that are well informed and timely with some direction and guidance. Good time management, can handle conflicting priorities, and deliver excellent levels of quality (ESSENTIAL).
