Organisation Information: Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O'Rourke, two of Europe's most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion. Bylor are pushing the boundaries of innovation and modern technology while delivering high quality construction on a massive scale. Bylor have already broken the UK record for the largest continuous concrete pour of 9,000m3 of concrete. Key responsibilities and specific accountabilities:
- Responsibility for the organisation and control of lifting operations.
- Ensuring that appointments to the crane team are made, including contractors, and leading that team.
- Ensuring that the qualifications of the crane team are valid.
- Working with the construction team to manage the lifting resources effectively.
- Ensuring the monitoring, review and revision of Lifting Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
- Selecting the clear means of communication between slinger/signaller and crane operator.
- Ensuring Method Statements for all lifting operations are drawn up.
- Liaison with the Temporary Works Coordinator to ensure adequate foundations are provided for all cranes, any required permits to load are in place and temporary works lifts are signed off.
- Liaison with the subcontractor's crane teams.
- Identifying, assessing, appointing and managing Crane Coordinators in their areas of responsibility.
- Identifying, assessing and appointing Crane Supervisors, deputy APs and slinger signallers on their relevant sections of the project.
- Managing the airspace they are responsible for as well as the coordination with adjacent sections and visiting contractors to ensure an adequate system for anti-collision and zoning is in place, briefed out and managed.
- Responsibility for the operators of hired-in cranes.
- Ensuring cranes and lifting accessories are adequately examined, inspected, maintained etc. and this is recorded.
- Ensure arrangements are in place for charging and replacing hook-cam batteries daily, where applicable.
- Ensuring there is an effective procedure for reporting defects and incidents, and taking appropriate action.
- Keep abreast with parent contractor's and industry lifting best practice, regulations or standards.
- Working with the Central lifting team and safety team to ensure that all the relevant toolbox talks, briefings and guidance are briefed out and recorded to the team.
The Appointed Person should consult all parties involved in the selection and hire of the crane, especially experienced persons in the crane team. While they may delegate duties to competent persons, the Appointed Person will maintain overall responsibility for these duties.

- Experience and Knowledge relevant to the appointed role.
- Knowledge of site standards and legislation.
- Knowledge of lifting operations relevant to area of appointment.

All positions with Bylor are employed directly with either Laing O'Rourke or Bouygues Travaux Public and include competitive salaries, private medical insurance, company pension schemes and annual holiday allowance. Some grades will also include a company car allowance. Unless stated otherwise all positions are based at Hinkley Point C in Somerset. Somerset boasts beautiful English countryside, an attractive coastline, interesting towns and villages along with easy access to the M5 and within proximity to the cities of Bristol and Exeter.
