Organisation Information: Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O’Rourke, two of Europe’s most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion. Bylor are pushing the boundaries of innovation and modern technology while delivering high quality construction on a massive scale.

Scope: As a construction business analyst, you are responsible for analysing data, producing reports, designing processes, and creating systems to enhance the operational efficiency and certainty of HPC. Your role involves liaising between Function and Operational Leaders, senior business stakeholders, the Technology Integration Team, the Central Digital Engineering Team, and IT teams to ensure that business requirements are translated into technical solutions. You will play an active role in identifying opportunities to streamline new and existing processes through the use of technology, data and automation.

Core Tasks and Duties:

  • Data Analysis: Collect, analyse, and interpret data related to the construction project. Develop detailed reports and dashboards to track project performance, costs, and schedules.
  • Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in construction processes and propose solutions. Implement best practices and process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
  • Requirement Gathering: Work closely with Function and Operational Leaders and stakeholders to understand their needs. Document business requirements and translate them into functional specifications and action plans for the teams.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders. Prepare and present project status reports to senior management and the client.

Performance Goals:

  • Deliver accurate and timely reports and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Achieve a 10% reduction in project processes through process improvements and efficiency gains.
  • Ensure that all business requirements are accurately documented and implemented.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Essential: Data Extraction and Analysis (e.g. SQL, python, GraphQL), Data Modelling and Visualisation (e.g. PowerBI, Qlik Sense, Tableau), Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, Effective communication and interpersonal skills, Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Desirable: Software Development methodologies (Agile, Lean), Software Development tools (PowerApps, PowerAutomate, React), Cloud Data Processing (Azure DataFactory), Data Warehousing / Data Lakes.

Challenges and Improvements: Addressing data inconsistencies and integrating data from multiple sources. Managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring alignment between business needs and technical solutions.

Future Objectives: Develop a training program for team members on data analysis and reporting tools to improve overall project performance. Review the project’s current approach to data and technology, and implement a strategy to identify and implement the latest and most effective tools and methodologies (particularly from outside the Construction industry).

Additional Information: All positions with Bylor are employed directly with either Laing O’Rourke or Bouygues Travaux Public and include competitive salaries, private medical insurance, company pension schemes and annual holiday allowance. Some grades will also include a company car allowance. Unless stated otherwise all positions are based at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.
