Summary

  • Location: Liverpool | Hybrid working
  • Salary: £45,000 - £65,000
  • PQE: 1 PQE +
  • Experience: Proven previous catastrophic injury or serious injury experience. Partners willing to consider claimant or defendant experience.

We have been instructed by this leading catastrophic injury team to recruit an experienced solicitor to help handle the increased workload of the department. This is an excellent opportunity for a defendant personal injury solicitor to develop their career within a leading national law firm, handling complex and high-value claims on behalf of major insurer and corporate clients.

More about the opportunity

Our client’s national complex injury team handles a varied range of claims including motor, employers’ liability, public liability and product liability matters. These cases frequently involve brain injury, spinal injury, amputation and substantial dependency. Working closely with a partner and experienced lawyers, you will manage your own caseload while assisting with some of the team’s most significant catastrophic injury matters. Depending on your level, you will also have opportunities to contribute to the supervision and development of junior colleagues.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a caseload of catastrophic and high-value defendant personal injury claims across motor and EL/PL
  • Assisting with initial investigations, liability and quantum analysis, and case strategy
  • Preparing reports, reserve recommendations, action plans and other advice for clients
  • Gathering and analysing evidence, including liaison with insurers, solicitors, the police, the HSE and witnesses
  • Identifying and instructing appropriate medical and non-medical experts
  • Attending court hearings, conferences and joint settlement meetings where required
  • Complying with the Civil Procedure Rules, rehabilitation protocols and relevant client requirements
  • Managing deadlines, financial targets and management information requirements

Who we are looking for

You will ideally be a qualified solicitor with experience managing defendant personal injury litigation. Experience of motor, employers’ liability or public liability claims is preferred. Previous exposure to high-value or catastrophic injury work would be advantageous but is not essential, making this an attractive opportunity for a capable defendant litigator looking to move into more complex injury work.

You should also demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills
  • Commercial awareness and a clear understanding of insurers’ priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • A methodical, organised approach and close attention to detail
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines and client protocols
  • A collaborative approach, together with the confidence to work independently
  • An interest in delivering excellent client service and contributing to business development
  • A commitment to supporting and developing more junior colleagues
