Property Damage Solicitor / Property Liability Solicitor – liability and coverage disputes as well as some subrogated recovery work.

The department consists of leading lawyers specialising in some of the most complex, high-profile property damage work. Cases involve technical coverage and liability disputes. There is also a smaller element of subrogated recoveries. The role has been designed to allow candidates to work remotely so the location is entirely flexible.

Previous Experience: Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong coverage and liability experience. Subrogated recovery experience will also be useful, but coverage liability expertise is key.

More about the role

Most of the work revolves around issues of complex liability and coverage. There is also a degree of subrogated recoveries work undertaken by the team. The successful candidate will be involved in a range of tasks including:

  • Handling own caseload depending on level of PQE or assisting where relevant
  • Assisting the Partner with complex large loss matters
  • Preparing draft advices to client – to be checked by Partner as appropriate
  • Preparing draft advices on coverage
  • Assessing coverage, liability, quantum and strategy
  • Conducting investigations
  • Preparing instructions to counsel and experts
  • Attending at client meetings, strategy discussions and conferences
  • Drafting applications to court
  • Attending settlement negotiations and ADR meetings

Property Liability and Coverage work

The team handles a broad range of work from leading insurers including large loss household and commercial property damage claims as well as product liability and subsidence claims. Lawyers work collaboratively with colleagues and handle some of the most interesting and challenging large and complex loss work. Examples of property damage cases have included claims involving:

  • criminal activity
  • large scale fires
  • water and chemical escapes
  • building collapses
  • fraud
