About the role
BYD is seeking a Technical Support Engineer to cover various energy storage site locations across the UK. This role reports to the UK Regional Aftersales Manager and involves performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, warranty repairs, and commissioning activities on BYD energy storage units at multiple client sites within the UK.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Maintain BYD Energy Storage Systems through annual PPM checks, capacity tests, and reactive works.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times.
- Provide phone support and remote diagnostics to customers.
- Complete administrative duties such as timesheets, vehicle checks, and daily job logs.
- Troubleshoot equipment at customer sites.
- Perform start-up and commissioning services (SAT).
- Assist the engineering team with product development and project work.
- Suggest improvements based on field experience.
- Conduct customer training at BYD and customer facilities as needed.
Essential Requirements:
- NVQ Level 3 or higher in electrical or electro-mechanical disciplines.
- Experience in electrical or multi-skilled maintenance.
- Full clean UK manual driving license.
- Basic IT skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, troubleshooting software).
- CSCS card for site access.
- Right to Work in the UK.
Additional (not essential):
- C&G 2391-5 Test & Inspect or equivalent.
- BS7671 18th Edition.
- HVAC training and F-Gas qualification.
- Understanding of IT topics, networking, MODBUS/TCP protocols.
- Knowledge of power electronics, inverters, converters, PLCs.
- Second language e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese, Xiang (advantage).
Other requirements:
- Travel to various sites, with occasional overnight stays.
