Security Engineer in Canary Wharf

Job Description

Purpose of the role

To develop, implement and maintain solutions that support the safeguarding of the banks systems and sensitive information.

• Accountabilities
• Provision of subject matter expertise on security systems and engineering patterns.
• Development and implementation of protocols, algorithms, and software applications to protect sensitive data and systems.
• Management and protection of secrets, ensuring that they are securely generated, stored, and used.
• Execution of audits to monitor, identify and assess vulnerabilities in the banks infrastructure/software and support the response to potential security breaches.
• Identification of advancements in to support the innovation and adoption of new cryptographic technologies and techniques.
• Collaboration across the bank, including developers and security teams, to ensure that cryptographic solutions align with business objectives, security policies and regulatory requirements.
• Development/ Implementation and maintenance of Identity and Access Management solutions and systems.

Join us as a Security Engineer at Barclays, where you will play a key role in protecting sensitive data across our technology estate.

You will use your strong technical expertise across Linux and Windows environments, alongside scripting and automation skills, to identify, classify and protect sensitive information including PII, PHI, PCI and financial data.

You will collaborate with security, technology and business teams to improve our understanding of sensitive data and strengthen our overall security posture.

To be successful as a Security Engineer, you should have

• Strong technical knowledge across Linux and Windows environments, with proficiency in Python, Power Shell or similar scripting languages
• Expertise in sensitive data identification, including PII, PHI, PCI and financial data, with a strong understanding of data classification frameworks and taxonomies
• Hands-on experience with DSPM platforms such as Microsoft Purview, Prisma, Big ID, Varonis or Cyera

Some other highly valued skills may include

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, software development workflows and modern engineering practices
• Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical security concepts to executive audiences
• Excellent documentation and reporting capabilities, with experience translating technical findings into clear insights and actionable recommendations
