Do you have a desire to work for a renewable energy provider? Do you have a trade background in mechanical, electrical or C&I and are looking for a change in direction? We are growing the team at our new build ‘Energy from Waste’ (EfW) plant located near Eastham, on the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside so this could be a great opportunity to join the team.
What will you be doing?
Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, working on a 40 hour per week contract, you will be responsible for ensuring the plant is operated with respect to safety, environmental and operational limits at all times, whilst maximising availability, reliability and efficiency. You will be an integral part of the shift team to actively deliver, using ‘on-shift’ resources, the planned and reactive first line maintenance, operational routines and testing requirements, to achieve the required availability and reliability targets.
Summary of key responsibilities:
- Ensure the plant is operated with respect to safety, environmental and operational limits at all times, whilst maximising availability, reliability and efficiency.
- Through correct operation and monitoring, ensure compliance with all aspects of the Environmental Permit; reporting any potential and actual incidents to the Shift Team Leader.
- Undertake routine plant inspections, operational routines, adjustments and testing alongside the collecting and recording of plant data.
- Undertake general defect rectification, planned and first line reactive maintenance and fault finding, to achieve availability and reliability targets required.
- Monitor plant performance, identifying and taking proactive measures to improve performance shortfalls.
- Support the Shift Team with the testing of the site emergency/abnormal condition plans and undertaking associated identified role(s), to manage all site emergencies safely and in line with local procedures.
- Provide operational support for the maintenance and fuel handling teams to maximise plant performance and safety.
- Assist the Shift Team Leader (STL) in maintaining an accurate and comprehensive shift log and ensuring all defects/works are recorded within the site CMMS.
- Adhere to health, safety and environmental management policies and assist in the creation/development of all site operations procedures.
- Provide operational support for all planned outages as required, which may require periods of ‘Day working’.
Qualifications & Knowledge to succeed:
- ONC / C&G / NVQ level 3 in a craft (Mech/Elec/C&I) skill is essential, along with a high level of practical thermal/process plant operational experience (Qualifications below this may be acceptable if accompanied by suitable experience).
- A good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement, with IOSH Managing Safely a preferred requirement.
- Knowledge and experience of operating EfW, biomass or thermal power plant process, permit and safety systems, electrical distribution and protection.
- Possess a trade background in either mechanical, electrical or C&I.
- General knowledge and experience of steam turbines, combustion systems, steam cycle chemistry, WTP, generators, flue gas emission abatement and overall plant performance monitoring.
- Experience of DCS operation and full understanding of P&IDs.
- Qualifications in the use of Counterbalance FLT and Grab Cranes.
- Computer literate with Microsoft Office suite and ideally previous CMMS and Nisoft Eclipse experience.

This role is a full-time role contracted for 40 hours per week, working a shift pattern based on a 4 on, 6 off (12hr days & nights) with long breaks and annual leave built in.
Some occasional and ad-hoc national travel may be required.
