Does the idea of powering the world trigger your interest? Do you have a combined technical background with practical field experience from operating plants? Then you could be BWSC's next Senior Process Engineer. We are looking for a candidate who can provide technical process engineering support to our biomass and Energy from Waste (EfW) teams, including plants and projects involving gasification processes.

BWSC is a leading player in the power generation industry, specializing in the service, operations, and maintenance of power plants. We are at the forefront of sustainable energy solutions, working closely with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to develop and construct cutting-edge power-to-x facilities. Our commitment to excellence, innovation, and environmental stewardship sets us apart in the industry.

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our sites with process engineering challenges, including combustion, flue gas treatment, emissions control, steam cycle interfaces and gasification processes. The successful candidate will work closely with both our UK and global power plant site teams and engineering colleagues to improve site performance, support operational troubleshooting, and help drive improvements across the UK fleet.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical assistance to sites and project teams on operational issues, process optimisation, plant improvements and associated engineering projects.
  • Lead or participate in root cause analysis, technical investigations and incident reviews, ensuring robust conclusions, clear recommendations and effective implementation of actions.
  • Identify process risks, performance limitations and recurring issues, and recommend practical mitigations, improvements and longer-term engineering solutions.
  • Carry out DCS investigations and process data reviews to diagnose plant behaviour, support troubleshooting and inform operational decision-making.
  • Assist with client reporting, diagnosis and explanation of process performance, plant incidents, improvement actions and technical recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain process engineering tools, procedures, templates and good-practice guidance to support consistent technical delivery across BWSC O&M.
  • Support the development and implementation of technical procedures, policies and processes across BWSC, particularly where these improve plant performance, reliability, compliance and safety.
  • Mentor and support colleagues at sites and within central teams by sharing process engineering knowledge and lessons learned.

Preferably, you hold a degree in an engineering discipline combined with practical experience from industrial plants, power generation, or similar operational environments. Ideally, you are an experienced process engineer with strong technical knowledge of thermal power generation, biomass and Energy from Waste operations, and ideally gasification processes. The role requires the ability to diagnose complex plant issues, interpret process and DCS data, support improvement projects, communicate technical findings clearly, and work collaboratively with site teams, project teams, clients and central BWSC functions.

You are a self-starter who takes initiative and works independently. You bring a structured and analytical approach to your work, while maintaining a practical and solution-oriented mindset. You are comfortable working both from the office and on site, and enjoy collaborating with both operational and engineering teams.

In addition, you hold:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work effectively in an international team environment and collaborate with UK site teams, the Engineering department in Denmark, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • A structured and organized approach to technical tasks and problem solving.
  • A proactive mindset and willingness to support operational and technical challenges across the UK fleet.
  • Willingness to travel to operating sites within the UK and occasionally internationally.
